Jim's
Big Bay Cabin Jim was working on this cabin when he met
Carrie in 1996. He got the logs locally and they are all hand hewn by him and
his dad, using antique tools when possible. He assembled the cabin in his
parents' front yard, labeled every log, and then dismantled it to take up to the
U.P. The roof is metal but the shake shingles on the side are antique. So
is the door knob on the front door (with a new deadbolt to make it safer). The
out house (which Jim wasn't planning on having, and built only for Carrie!)
features real deer antlers for a handle. The cabin windows were made using
antique glass panes. The rocks used for the foundation were found throughout the
woods in Big Bay. It has been a long, slow process because of the 5-hour drive
each way, the bugs, and the snow.
